Literally this doesn’t guarantee anything, no one is stopping Coca Cola or amazon by raising their prices by 1000 dollars, it’s just going to lead to inflation and the poor will become even poorer

While I’d love to help the US be better, I think one part of this is wrong. I work at a very popular Gad station chain and there I see some bad signs. I’ve seen literal thousands of people (I deal with over a thousand customers a day) use their food stamp cards ‘improperly’. Essentially they’ll do one of two things. First, they’ll use their food stamps to buy snacks and candy, not actual nutricional food. Alternatively or on top of that, people use their food Stamps to buy food or candy, and then use their own money (which they have because hey didn’t spend it on the food) to buy either alcohol, tobacco or lottery. And frankly I see that as an abuse of the system. That money is meant as a temporary boost to help you get out of your financial hole and improve your position. Instead people just take it as free cash they can use for whatever they want (which isn’t the purpose of it at all). So I’d have to see the study saying poor people won’t spend it on negative externalities, because my firsthand experience has shown me otherwise.

I can easily tell you where the money would come from. Why don't the put a earning cap on these dingleberries ridiculous pay checks? There is literally zero reasons why we should have billionaires on this planet. Zero. A earning cap should end around 250 million. And I think that is too much. What do those people do after they earn that much anyways? Nothing. Then the rest of that money could be spread and distributed where it's needed. Put a end to the greed.

Of course my friends and I would quit our job if we had UBI. I have no idea what make-believe study was done but it is a lie. There is no such thing as free money... All money from the government is taken from taxpayers. UBI would bankrupt the country... Do it in your country and find out for yourself moron.

This is nothing more than another form of social insanity trying to appear viable and valuable, yet it actually carries the guarantee of binding poverty due to the massive expansion of rewarded indolence. UBI has essentially been in force for sixty years now in the United States. Our massive inner city poverty has spread to every small town and into all of rural America by rewarding not working with a steady government "check". Once that check begins it is human nature to be willing to adjust one's lifestyle down to your income so you won't have to work--ever. In fact, the most work you will ever do again is figuring out how to get more money from the government without working. For example, tens of millions of low income couples now live together without marriage so they can still receive two full checks. Without marriage binding them, they are far more likely to abandon their children on short notice and over lesser issues than they would do if married. UBI is nothing less than a dehumanizing idea on a satanic scale.

*Since the UBI is not the solution, then perhaps the solution is to kill the rich, steal their riches and divide among us. Or create a new economic system that entitles all people to eat food and not starve to death.* I prefer the first option.

I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t trust things that sound so perfect. They don’t usually work out just because we can’t foresee every possible scenario. A system that doesn’t need so much control usually works best in my opinion. I don’t know it just sounds too good to be true.

1. "UBI is only a redistribution of wealth, rather than adding money to the economy, so it won't cause inflation."
2. "By giving poorer people more spending power, UBI will increase consumer spending, which will spur demand and grow the economy."
Both of these statements can not be 100% true. I generally favor UBI and think it can be made to work out really well, but this episode is kind of glossing over the challenges in a sloppy manner. Kurzgesagt usually does better than this.

Something i do not understand. You say it would not cause inflation. But if everyone knows everyone is making 1000 dollars more an month, what stops your landlord from simply raising the price of housing by 1000?

I was alarmed by your notion that giving $1 to a poor person helps the economy much more than giving $1 to a rich person. What do poor people do with their money? They consume it. Consumption is destruction—once you eat the sandwich, it is gone forever. It can be good destruction—a sandwich nourishes you, a movie raises your spirit. But the money is gone. Now, saving is quite different. What do rich people do with their money? They save it. If you save a dollar what happens to it? It gets invested in a productive enterprise. Production is everything. It should be obvious that before you can consume something it must be produced by someone. The solution is for everyone to be rich. In a way, we already are (United States). Even “poor” people have cell phones, air conditioning, cars, 3 meals, etc. But there is always room for improvement. In a free country, the sky is the limit. We just need to start treating everyone like the adults they are.

It's like, not everybody can eat caviar , with ubi who would eat?

So you think I should give it to someone who is too lazy to use a little elbow grease? You keep saying "wealth transfer". What you MEAN is "expropriation of producers".
When you rely on the Government to write you a check, they will control what you say, do, and think.
brio - преди 3 часа
@Sublime Because profits. Corporations drive the government, starting a civil war within the US, directly taking away rights from citizens, and other totalitarian actions are simply not profitable and create economic instability. The current method is to keep people in just enough poverty so that they're able to stay alive but never progress and then convince them to argue with each other over taxes and welfare as opposed to looking at the highest classes which are screwing them over.
Sublime - преди 11 часа
@brio If nothing stops the government then why don't they?
brio - преди 12 часа
Nothing stops the government from controlling what you say, do, and think right now. Sure a piece of paper known as the Constitution exists, but it's a piece of paper. It only has power when people agree to abide by it, if people do not, it is useless.

“10 million caregivers aged 50+ who care for their parents lose an estimated $3 trillion in wages, pensions, retirement funds, and benefits. The total costs are higher for women, who lose an estimated $324,044 due to caregiving, compared to men at $283,716. Lost wages for women who leave the work force early because of caregiving responsibilities totals $142,693. [MetLife Mature Market Group, National Alliance for Caregiving, and the University of Pittsburgh Institute on Aging. (2010).“ The MetLife Study of Working Caregivers and Employer Health Costs: Double Jeopardy for Baby Boomers Caring for their Parents.]
Ask the people cutting their work hours or leaving their jobs altogether, what an extra $1000/mo would mean to them. Caring for a loved one is a huge burden and currently has zero value. The Freedom Dividend would take the stranglehold off the caregiver and I haven’t even mentioned the financial burden of the actual patient. VAT + UBI isn’t a cure all end all but it’s a start.

What a load of gullible naive wishful lazy hogwash shit. This is a variation of welfare with a new name.. Lazy people will do nothing and receive free money while workers get taxed more to pay for this shit and the wealthy will pay a little to keep the workers at bay.. Fuck off with your smoke and mirrors future visionary fairy tale bullshit sales pitch promising the freedom to do nothing and receive everything. The global economy is driven by slaves while the developed world wears a blindfold every time it goes shopping.

I was curious about the poverty line here in Norway because of this video, and since I live there and I did some research,.apparently, the poverty line in Norway is 20885 USD a year which is 1740 USD a month.

I also found out that if you don't have enough money at the end of the month to buy what you want, after paying for all of the daily necessities (like food housing cloth etc) you are considered to be living in poverty here in Norway.

Growing up I remember that some years my parents did not have enough money for my sis and I to go watch the cinema or for hobby like sports or painting. I guess we lived in poverty for some years relative to the Norwegian poverty line. Which is crazy because I had a pretty normal childhood growing up, except for those years I couldn't go to the cinema, but it wasn't bad either we had a roof over our heads and food.

Id join UBI for research. I kinda like the idea of not stressing and being able to pay my rent. Then using my income for future goals.
And the part about how welfare forces people to be lazy is so true. A guy at my work a casual employee is on welfare. Welfare gives him 500-600$ aud per week and about 250-300$ from his regular 2 shifts. If he gets extra work or holiday rate pay he in a week he looses the welfare then he can't afford to pay rent and general expenses. So instead he just does those 2 shifts and gets that welfare. And spends the rest of the week doing nothing and wasting time.
